Meeting Postponed by Centropolis Daughters Club

The Daughter's Club of Centropolis changed its meeting to Wednesday at the home of Mrs Roy B Church. George A Weber 84 of 732 Willow Ottawa area died yesterday at 2 40 p m at Squires Tankersley nursing home. A retired farmer he suffered a stroke over six years ago. Born Oct 19 1870 near Liberty Mo he attended school there and William Jewell College. He later worked in Texas cotton fields then Kansas farm near Homewood. The family moved to Ottawa in 1910. Survived by widow Minnie M Lemon three children six grandchildren six great grandchildren two brothers and one sister. Funeral Tuesday 10 a m Lamb Funeral Home with Highland cemetery interment.

Pickets Let Train Pass At Westinghouse Plant

Pickets stood aside allowing a trainload of fuel into the Westinghouse jet engine plant in Kansas City after previous failed attempts and a court order. Union official Kenneth Worley said pickets were called off following Sheriff Arvid Owsley warning of hazards from overflowing tank cars. Negotiations were urged to resume with Westinghouse after the entry.

Two local obituaries record interments in Emerald and Richmond cemeteries. John McLindon, a longtime farmer aged 77, died after illness and is survived by siblings and a brother who predeceased him. Anna Demoret, widow of Cas Demoret, dies at 77 in Richmond, with a son, a daughter, and several grandchildren among survivors. Interment for Demoret is planned at Richmond cemetery after services at the Williams burg Free Methodist and Methodist-Presbyterian churches.

Heat Wave Continues Across Plains and Midwest With Record Highs

Weather officials warn no relief from heat as overnight lows stay in the 80s and 100s persist in the central and southern plains. Readings reach 109 in Sac City Iowa 108 in Lincoln Neb 107 in Omaha Neb and Sioux City. Death tolls from the prolonged heat rise across Iowa Missouri Nebraska and Dinols with dozens dead. Showers dampen the Southeast but fail to cool the region and temperatures remain above 90.

Funerals Held For Mrs Lottie B Hanes At Local Mortuary

Funeral services for Mrs Lottie B Hanes who died July 28 were held July 30 at McVey Den igel Mortuary with Rev M Todd Macdonald officiating. Pallbearers named Armond L Butler Charles R Charlie F Vernon L Lawrence and Donald Hanes. Raymond S Schmidt sang hymns with Mrs R L Stevens accompanying. Interment followed at Waverly Cemetery.
