Names Behind Ottawa Cemeteries Hope and Highland
Franklin County historians recall Hope Cemetery on Sec ond Street was unnamed at founding on February 7, 1865 and deeded to Ottawa in 1873. Highland Cemetery on 15th Street earned its name for higher ground, and was incorporated May 1, 1886. Floods and levees shaped the surrounding area over the decades.
