Court decision could boost Kansas voter ID push
The US Supreme Court's 6-3 ruling upholding Indiana’s photo ID law could add momentum for Kansas to pass similar legislation. Supporters such as Sen. Tim Huelskamp say the decision proves voter ID is constitutional, while opponents warn it may disenfranchise some voters. Officials note Kansas already requires ID from first-time voters and debate a broader in-person photo ID requirement for most voters under 65, potentially delaying until 2010 with free state IDs for those in poverty.
