Cancer resistant mice created at Wake Forest

Wake Forest University researchers led by Dr. Zheng Cui developed a cancer resistant mouse colony to study human cancer. About half the offspring of a resistant male inherited the trait, indicating a genetic basis. Transplanting cancer triggered a strong white blood cell response, with some mice remaining cancer free and others progressing before being eliminated. The colony now numbers around 700 mice and aims to shed light on cancer regression and resistance in humans. Dr. Mark Willingham called the work preliminary but promising, hoping for future human impact.
