Stations accused of octane cheating by AAA
In Washington the American Automobile Association urges removing octane labels from gas pumps after a GAO report alleges widespread cheating. AAA says car owners have only a fifty percent chance of getting the claimed octane. The GAO found cheating at over half of stations tested in Detroit and St Louis, though tests were limited to suspected cheaters and not projectable.

Thursday's Legislative Highlights
The House advanced a tax rollback bill to a final vote with a 70-55 margin, adding a quarter cent sales tax, scrapping exemptions, and raising taxes on the wealthy to cut school property taxes by 17 percent. A separate property classification plan faced doubt as a two thirds vote was unlikely. The Senate passed the omnibus appropriations bill 27-13 after rejecting a boost for Regents schools amid student lobbying. A flag desecration resolution cleared the House 70-52 and goes to the Senate. A school finance plan moving $547 million to 304 districts went to conference as Senate did not concur with House amendments, a panel to meet Friday.
