Cattle Brands From Ear Markings Mark Early County History
An editorial notes a county official recovering the old Marks and Brands record book. It shows James Marman registered the first brand on November 21, 1868 with a hole in the left ear and a slit in the right ear. D M Davis, the last to register on June 8, 1901, used a three-fourth inch hole in the right ear. The records reveal ear holes and slits paired with brands and initials burned on hides.
