Governor signs budget vetoes hospital deal language
Governor Kathleen Sebelius signed a 12.3 billion budget while vetoing a clause restricting an affiliation between the University of Kansas Medical Center and St. Luke's in Kansas City. She argued existing oversight protects medical education and that the agreement would require Regents approval. The deal would let KU medical residents work at St. Luke's, a concern for KU Hospital and Kansas doctors. Hospital leaders praised the veto as maintaining momentum toward a broader agreement.
