Beneficial Insects Fight Greenbugs Across Kansas Fields
The Kansas Board of Agriculture reports a surge in beneficial insects in Kansas small grains since mid April, with lady beetles and parasitic wasps suppressing greenbugs in much of the state. Weevils threaten alfalfa growth in eastern two thirds, while chinch bugs damage wheat near bluestem pastures. Leaf scorch and diseases like wheat streak mosaic rise in western and central areas, cedar apple rust appears in eastern trees, and early egg lays for chinch bugs suggest continued activity.
