Kansas Senate eyes expanded gambling as education costs rise

A Senate committee took no action on a gambling expansion that would back a Dodge City casino and a Kickapoo Sac and Fox hotel casino near Kansas Speedway. Lawmakers face a skeptical Supreme Court on the school finance plan and softer revenue projections as supporters push for revised gaming proposals. Governor Sebelius backs the Kickapoo Sac and Fox pact with a $210 million casino hotel, sharing at least $50 million yearly with the state, while limiting other gambling and capping machines at tracks. The panel awaits outcomes from spring break before resuming talks on live resort casinos in Kansas City, Junction City, Dodge City, Wichita and southeast Kansas.
