Piper stuns OHS softball in opening homestand
Piper swept Ottawa High School softball 11-4 and 7-4 at Orris Cox, led by Kamryn Sparks and Alexis Rymer with homers in Game 1. Ashaya Blevins pitched well early, Ottawa fought back with runs from Jenna DeVore and Alli Kerns, but Piper opened the floodgates in the seventh. Bailey Bones finished Game 1, and Ottawa faces Spring Hill in a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader at home.

Ottawa High School baseball shoulders into a busy week after a 10-0 home win over Spring Hill. They open Be tween the Lines De Soto Spring Classic against Gardner Edgerton, then face possible Friday games as weather prompts adjustments. Eight pitchers have contributed this season, led by Zach Curry, in a team hungry for regional and postseason payoff.

Ottawa High School athletes excelled with Kasey Spigle breaking two minutes in the 800 for the first time this season. Starters Tyler Mitchell Brandon Pfizenmaier and Landon Rundle each cleared over 12 feet in the pole vault, a feat not seen in Mark Law’s 40 years as coach. In girls events Addison Morris led 100m at 14.42, Morgan Waterman 400m 1:09.37, and Waterman co-led the 4x100 relay with Morris Hollington Lane in 55.74. Theresa Bruna discus 71-03 and Lane 31-09 in triple jump highlighted other marks. Boys golf results noted as Osawatomie meet second place with Soph, Gollier, and Fangman.

Ottawa University Lady Braves sweep Bethany in home doubleheader
Aryn Smith, 33, a sophomore infielder for Ottawa University, narrowly missed a run at home plate during Monday's home doubleheader against Bethany College. The Lady Braves swept 3-0 and 5-3, and Ottawa returns home Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Southwestern College. Results from Wednesday's Sterling College doubleheader were unavailable at press time.
