Supreme Court backs IRS in pursuing cheaters over home lien
The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the IRS may place tax liens on a family home to recover unpaid taxes from one spouse. The decision rejected Sandra Craft’s challenge after her husband Don avoided income taxes 1979 to 1986, transferring the Grand Rapids house to her for $1 before bankruptcy. Justice O'Connor said Congress allows liens on all property a taxpayer might have.
