Trucker's Reaction Minimizes Wreck Near Princeton

Osawatomie man Herbert Roy, 77, escaped with minor injuries after his 1974 Oldsmobile hit a bridge railing on John Brown Highway east of Princeton. A truck driver, James Cody, 31, aided by steering onto the shoulder and into a ditch, stopping the semi and preventing a worse outcome. Roy was admitted for observation at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa with a bruised chest and an ankle contusion. Roy's car spun broadside after striking a guardrail post as gravel on the shoulder contributed to losing control. The undamaged truck was later towed from the creek by heavy equipment.
