Box Supper Proves Picture Perfect at Franklin County Fair
At Celebration Hall the annual box supper raised more than 600 dollars for the Franklin County Fair Association. Auctioneer Bob Carleton led an auction of 25 boxes and 13 pies with Dan Willford, six, stealing the show by bidding on a box and sampling a pie. Rose Lintner bought Rudy Lintner’s wife’s cake for 22 dollars, ending his five year chase.

Diplomat Seeks Top Dollar After UN Defection
Arkady Shevchenko, former Soviet undersecretary at the United Nations, reportedly seeks 100000 dollars per year to reveal which U.S. agencies were fed false information by the KGB. Time magazine says he has been secretive with U.S. intelligence and defected to the West after leaving his UN post over differences with Moscow. He has been hiding in New York State since April and hopes for a lump sum covering the remaining two years of his contract and U.S. residence assurances. A Soviet informant predicted he could exceed 100000 dollars.
