Sex as Weapon Against Pink Bollworm Approved by EPA
The EPA approved Glossyplure H.F, the first purely sex oriented insecticide, to disrupt mating in pink bollworms in cotton fields of Arizona and Southern California. Field tests showed dramatic drops in caterpillar larvae and reduced crop damage, with minimal impact on non target species and people. The chemical mimics the female moths mating scent and confuses male bollworms, lowering pest populations in the Southwest.
