Open House Showcases New Low Income Homes in Ottawa
ECKAN announces an open house on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 724 and 728 N. Cherry to display two newly constructed low income homes. Each offers three bedrooms one bathroom full basement attached garages and targets affordable housing for local families. Richard Jackson of ECKAN notes additional homes will be ready for occupancy in July at 628 N. Lodhbt and 700 Cypress.

Pomona Scout aims to plant 750 trees for Eagle project
Jesse Cox a Pomona High School junior leads 750 tree planting along Dragoon Creek to curb erosion. About 30 volunteers mostly scouts meet at 9 am Saturday at Pomona Lake Ranger Station bringing shovels and sack lunches. Donations include sodas cookies and chips and 750 bare root seedlings from the Corps of Engineers and Extension Office. Cox 17 says project arose after severe floods last year and will be reviewed by local and district committees before final sanction by the national Boy Scouts of America in Irving Texas.

Franklin County expands Community Corrections budget plan
The Franklin County commissioners approved the Fourth Judicial District Community Corrections annual operating plan and budget, increasing FY 1995 funds to about $290,000 with a $30,300 raise to hire an intensive supervision officer for juvenile offenders. The program, funded by KDOC, will also boost juvenile monitoring, surveillance staff hours, electronic monitoring, and joint work with parole services for eight to ten cases, focusing on area residents returning from prison.

Fire at J C Penney 221 223 S Main and nearby shops caused extensive damage. Branson suffered multiple injuries and was found near the blaze with a broken knee and pelvis. Officials speculated he leapt from a second story as a power line was broken. Penney's kept a catalog operation at Kramer Drug. A Bloomin Florist relocated to 314 S Main after the fire. Main Street Marketing moved to the owner’s home and later faded out. Helton's Hallmark temporarily joined The Victorian House for repairs while walls were fixed. Total 1992 losses estimated at least 500000.

French jet hit by ground fire over Gorazde mission
A French Etendard IV-P aircraft on a reconnaissance mission over Gorazde was struck in the tail by ground fire as NATO and U N officials reported escalating fighting around the town in eastern Bosnia. The pilot reportedly escaped injury. NATO did not identify the fire source.
