Ottawan recalls Black Sunday dust storm memories
The Herald recalls the 1935 Dust Bowl day as Ottawans remember a dramatic event that grayed the sky across four states. Ruth Shelden, 91, notes every surface filled with dust while others describe cars stalling, homes losing light, and people seeking shelter as dust pneumonia claimed lives and communities began digging out. The piece ties the event to the wider era’s harsh dust storms and notes AP collaboration.

Scientists boycott curriculum hearings over politicized science
Scientists from the Kansas science writing committee endorse a boycott of upcoming evolution hearings arguing political influence taints standards. The board approved the second draft with dissenting tweaks while planning May hearings in Topeka. Critics say the boycott suppresses open debate on origins and evolution.
