New York stocks fell at midday as rates outlook unsettled investors. The Dow dropped 5.40 to 994.87 amid a 2-1 loser majority, while the Fed reported a $3.2 billion rise in the money supply. Several Chicago banks lifted prime from 17 to 17 1/2 percent, matching Chase and Manufacturers Hanover. NYSE composite fell .57 to 77.21. AMEX index down 3.84 to 364.66. Kansas population reached 2,263,208 in the 1980 census, up 114,137 or 5.1 percent from 1970. The data set reapportionment for five congressional districts, with district populations ranging from 447,026 to 454,028 and an average of 449,814. ideal district population is 472,641.
