Graves aims higher delinquent tax collection in Kansas budget plan
Gov. Bill Graves and lawmakers plan stepped up delinquent tax collection to ease a growing budget gap. Budget Director Duane Goossen said a $3 million staffing boost could yield about $40 million more in fiscal 2002 tax receipts, with net gains of roughly $37 million for the Legislature. Budget pressures include $19.9 million more for social services over 15 months, widening a $205 million gap. Senate President Kerr called delinquent tax collection “low hanging fruit.”
