Suzuki method tutors mentor Ottawa violinists and youth
Violinists in Ottawa, including 13 year tutor Mrs Lewis, teach Suzuki to about 90 students with assistants Phillip Scheldt and Rhonda Machlan. Shinichi Suzuki developed the method after studies in Germany and a doctorate. It emphasizes parent involvement and early language-like musical sensitivity. The program features performances directed by Suzuki at concert sites with pieces by Vivaldi, Bach, Gossec, Schumann. Julie and Brian, eager students with new strings, show the technique’s appeal as they prepare to travel east.
