New Rule Dismays Prep Basketball Coaches
The National Federation of High School Activities Associations approved a bench rule banning coaches from standing during games except to react to plays, with standing for any other reason penalized as a technical foul. Area coaches allege the rule is impractical and may disrupt games, while officials warn enforcement will determine its viability.

Coaches react to bench rule and new basketball size
Area coaches express mixed views on a new bench rule, favoring a coaching box to keep coaches on the sideline. They note referees may hesitate to call technical fouls, while players may stand only during dead balls. Kansas also approves a smaller ball for 1985-96, aiding speed and handling.
