State tax shifts threaten federal cut benefits, study says
A Tax Foundation survey of 49 states shows proposals to raise taxes totaling 3.8 billion dollars while the federal Reagan plan would cut income taxes by 6.4 billion and business taxes by 2.5 billion. States cite budget balancing, highway funding, and local property tax relief as motives. gasoline and sales taxes are the most common targets. Arizona Georgia New York Oklahoma among eight states show net tax relief trends, but many changes mix increases and decreases.
