Small Insurance Firm Fails As Old Age Takes Its Toll

In Minneapolis AP report, 85 year old Paul Clement led the tiny American Benefit Association once serving 15,000 policyholders. State regulators seized remaining assets of 100000 to 200000 among policyholders as the firm, with a 12 dollar annual premium and 150 dollar brain surgery limit, winds down amid aging staff and no new policies since 1972.

Funding for Kansas Regents Fails in House Vote 116-4

Kansas funding for the Board of Regents and its institutions totaling 410 million dollars failed in the House by 116 to 4 and returns to the Senate for consideration. The measure carries House changes from the Ways and Means Committee, with the Senate-accepted revenue increase for local government units about 1 million higher, and the tax lid proposal dropped. Rep James Slattery says the House version would push local revenue about 4 million. The House also sent to the governor a contractor notice bill to protect homeowners from double payment when subcontractors aren’t paid, a response to prior forced payments on residential projects.
