Analysis shows 53 Kansas thrifts with about 22 billion in assets and 21.9 billion in liabilities. Insolvent 17 thrifts owned a majority of deposits with negative capital totaling 420 million, including Franklin’s 390.3 million, while all 17 posted 64.6 million in negative earnings.

Allentown report recalls Fran and Tony Toto whose 1983 murderous marriage inspired a film partly starring Kevin Kline and Tracey Ullman. Fran Toto, 46, later laughs at the dark tale on talk shows as the real events reveal a wife plotting to kill her husband after a series of botched attempts. Police later arrested Fran after Tony was hospitalized.
