Medicare expands coverage for some Alzheimer's patients
In September 2001 the Bush administration quietly authorized Medicare to cover some previously denied claims for Alzheimer's patients, including mental health care and physical therapy. The policy shift, deemed a technical matter by officials, aims to help patients live at home longer and reduce caregiver burden. Estimates place 4 million Americans with Alzheimer's, with costs running into billions, while dire projections see 14 million by 2050.

Foreign students can bypass immigration rules says guest columnist
Margaret Orchowski argues that foreign students in the United States on nonimmigrant visas may later qualify for permanent residency. She cites delayed INS approvals for Florida flight schools tied to Atta and Alshehhi, the House’s Section 2451 amnesty idea, and a surge in foreign student enrollments across U.S. colleges.
