FTC Rules Against Reference Publisher
The Federal Trade Commission ruled that Grolier Inc. of New York City deceived customers with pricing claims and unfair sales practices related to Encyclopedia Americana and other reference works. A cease and desist order was issued, with findings of misrepresented in home visit motives, debt collection threats, and misleading job descriptions for door to door sales.
