Kansas House debates expanded gambling at tracks and at-large site
The Kansas House opened debate on a bill to permit slot machines and other electronic gaming at pari mutuel race tracks and an unspecified at-large site. Projections range from 320 to 400 million yearly after payouts, with 87 percent payback. Revenue shares favor track owners, the state, and local governments, with county approvals required and the governor selecting the at-large location. Abortion policy moves amid Senate opposition in Kansas
In Kansas, Powell cites advancing abortion limits while Senate opposition remains strong. A clinic regulation bill would require licensed medical directors and on site nurses, with life support and revival equipment, but critics doubt clinics can meet costs. A “Choose Life” license plate proposal would add 25 to 100 dollars to fees for adoption funding. HB 2819 HB 3000 HB 2797 SB 624.
