Technology doubles blood donation trend spreads nationwide
Washington AP reports Las Vegas blood bank banked 7 700 extra donations last year by using apheresis to double red blood cell yield from a single donor. The on site separation saves time and supplies more red cells, while donors may wait longer between visits. Haemonetics and Gambro BCT supply machines as programs expand to 18 states and five Red Cross regions.
