Medicare caps outpatient copays at hospital centers
The federal rule caps Medicare outpatient copayments at hospital-owned centers at a maximum equal to the inpatient deductible, $776 this year. The move aligns outpatient charges with the 20 percent patient share, while inpatient costs remain higher, with gradual future parity expected but decades away. Congress and the Clinton administration last fall agreed to a new dollar limit to control costs.
