Superintendent of Finance Bruce Lindley predicted there would be between $50,000 and $100,000 surplus in the elementary school account and $200,000 in the secondary school account. Describing the surplus he pointed to interest on short term investment as being one of the contributing factors in the surplus. He noted grants from the province arrived on the third or fourth of the month and were not expended until the 25th. The short term investment of the funds, even for as little as two or three days, had produced $50,000 surplus rather than an anticipated $50,000 charge for financing and interest. Director J. Singleton observed the surplus, while it was a lot in terms of dollars, was a very wall percentage when it was related to the Board's $32,000,000 budget.
