Board of Education Chairman F. Armitage said he would not be available for a second year. He urged passing the chair to another member, noting real progress and major policy standards set during the inaugural year of 1969.
Ontario Hydro restrained rural lines caused a Sunday outage after a local sub station fuse. Two hours dark for rural residents. town homes lost power about ninety minutes. phase-specific areas spared. A separate outage near Acton December 16 followed similar overloads. Board of Education chair Armitage retires after two years as chair with praise from Trustee Ronson. three-phase line project to aid rural zones underway.
As Halton County prepares for a potential shift to regional government in 1971, up to five candidates bid for Warden. Lead contender Reeve Alan Day of Oakville faces challenge from several reeves and deputy-reeves across seven municipalities, including Milton, Acton, and Esquesing. The race hinges on the turn system and local leadership dynamics as the inaugural January meeting looms.
Acton Board of Parks Management and Recreation Committee hears resignations at year end meeting. Brendan Aherne cites two interpretations of involvement and thanks coworkers for support. Paul Paulsen, 12th grade student and Acton area resident, died in a highway collision that also lightly injured Gertrude McMullen and Mr and Mrs Mel Sheppard. The crash occurred as a McMullen car attempted a left turn onto Fourth Line. Paulsen had recently moved to Canada from Germany with his family in 1986 and helped at his father’s service station. Funeral held at Rumley Shoemaker with Rev. Scrivens officiating. Milton OPP investigated. damages listed at $800 and $900.
Eight vehicles blocking Acton streets during a snow plowing operation were towed at about 2 a.m. on police orders. Officers tried to reach owners, but eight cars still had to be removed to clear the roads. Police said the bylaw is mainly enforced in the winter when plowing is required.
Acton Lions present a Christmas gift of half price admission for a Saturday matinee at M. Z. Bennett school. The Horse with Alan Ladd stars as the film, half a dollar price cut for the occasion. Lions also donated $200 to the Acton Tri-County Association at the Station Hotel dinner, accepted by President Ron McKnight for the Hockeyists, with Vic Bristow announcing the boys and girls work effort.
