TREE PLANTING AT CITY PARK THURSDAY 2:30Five Black Walnuts From Washington Tree Will Be Buried Here25 ORGANIZATIONS AIDHope to Have Companion for Stewart Pecan Now GrowingElaborate preparations are under way for the treeplanting occasion to be held in City Park, Railroad Avenue, Thursday afternoon at 2:30.According to those in charge of the event, some twenty-five or six organizations will take an active part in the program. Five seed from a Black Walnut tree now growing;i vington’s old home, Mount Vernon, j J will be planted in City Park. These |seed will be planted in a “composite” soil, deposited in a hole prepared for that purpose, and brought from many points in the parish and from many parts of the city,Each cooperating civic organization will designate a leader, preferably the head of the organization, and this leader will make the actual donation of the soil.Post Commander George Nlcol of the American Legion, will act as chairman, and will handle the program. A brief band concert will precede the opening of the program, Short talks will be made by one or two people. Mrs. Add Thompson will read a poem on trees,It s expected that the occasion will attract a large and a representative crowd to the park at thai; s?fcpur.The seed to be planted were secured by the Chamber of Commerce some days ago through Congressman Riley J. Wilson.It will be recalled that there is ni)w growing in City Park a 2-year-old Stewart Ppcan_, planted in a “composite’’ soil donated by seventy-nine individual farmers representing every section of the parish. This tree has made a very satisfactory growth, and gives promise of one day adding fp the material welfare and the happiness of all |r our people.planted Thursday, will, it is hoped j ^ and believed, produce a companion tree to the Stewart Pecan now standing in the park, and that it} .the far-flung future, it may be, r these two trees will be a constant reminder of the fine spirit of fellowship 9Hd cooperation manifest in Lincoln parish.
