Monster huntcalled offEDMONTON (CP) — The hunt for lake monsters in two northeastern Alberta lakes has been suspended.Ray Makoweeki, head of the provincial fish and wildlife department for northeastern Alberta, said Wednesday a lifetime could be spent searching for monsters with few results and his agency is not designed for such a task.Residents near Saddle Lake, a small body of water surrounded by an Indian reserve, have reported seeing a serpent-like monster.About 100 sightings have been made over the last decade. Because of the reports and pollution problems, the Saddle Lake Indian band has closed the lake to boats. There have also been reports of monster sightings in Christina Lake, about 250 kilometres north of Saddle Lake.Makoweeki said further studies are planned at Christina Lake, but they relate to planned road and campground construction in the area.Jim Butler of Edmonton, who has long taken an interest in unexplained phenomena, visited Saddle Lake last year and came away saying the information gathered was inconclusive.
