A Monday meeting of Osseo citizens appointed committees and chose Rev Decon as speaker for a grand Fourth of July celebration. The town plans a lively program with a park display and plentiful stores and refreshments, aiming for a large crowd and hospitable reception.
The sixth annual Buffalo County Veteran Association reunion is held in Mondovi with large anticipated attendance. Preparations show strong civic interest. Speeches advertised include Governor Upham Cols A J Wat r ons EB J Gray Congressman M Griffin Hon J J McGillivray Robert Laes and HA DeGroff.
A worm pest about one and a quarter inches long has appeared in Barron County. It mostly feeds in grass and grain roots and has been seen on corn without serious damage. It appears in streaks, with some areas unaffected. A new potato-bug like pest has also emerged, described as a bare shelled black bug slightly smaller than the potato bug, requiring stronger Paris green seed treatments.
A nearby resident hints Osseo will host a new firm with pumps wind mills and a well drilling machine. Blair votes 34 yes 22 no to issue 3500 in bonds for a waterworks system, work to begin at once.
Governor Upham withdraws from renomination amid shifting contest for the ticket. Aspiring rivals include Eugene S. Elliot of Milwaukee, May Edward Schofield of Oronts, and ex congressman Cagwell of Ft Atkinson. Lieutenant Governor Baensch and Secretary of State Henry Casson also discussed as possible contenders. A lighthearted domestic anecdote follows with a family dinner mishap. The Trempealeau county summer school at Arcadia opens July 6 with staff and course offerings.
