Niles Retired Adviser to FDR Truman Dies in Boston
David K R Niles 62 adviser on minority problems to Presidents Roosevelt and Truman died at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston from an abdominal malignancy. He had been operated on last July and interrupted his vacation to confer with Truman and Adlai Stevenson on campaign strategy. Large Craft Plunges Over Dam Trapping 3 Injured
A sunset pleasure run on Eau Claire Lake ended tragically when a 70-foot dam caused a large aluminum motorboat to plunge over the spill. Three people were injured and found after nightfall. one victim swam ashore, another remained in the boat. Rescuers freed them about an hour later. The incident occurred five miles north of Augusta as the sun blinded the pilot.
