Senate Debates Narrowed Treaty Vote Nears Approval

Sen. Thomas J. Dodd dropped his push for five understandings and the split vote moved toward approval of the limited nuclear test ban treaty. Democratic and Republican leaders expected enough votes to reject all reservations and back ratification with a separate report on underground testing, labs, observance, and security.

Seven Dead On Highways Across Wisconsin

Seven people died in Wisconsin highway crashes over the weekend, raising the 1963 toll to 617. Victims include Mark Teske, 4 months, Milwaukee. Calvin Dryden, 18, Mondovi. Hurricane Debra Whirls Harmlessly at Sea

The hurricane Debra, described as a small storm whose growth is limited, swirled 1,006 miles east southeast of Bermuda as Miami’s Weather Bureau team reported. Winds reached 75 mph, just at hurricane force, with limited evening updates on the season’s fourth storm.

Massive Airlift To Germany For 2nd Armored Division

Washington announces a huge airlift moving 15,000 soldiers of the 2nd Armored Division from Texas to Germany aboard 240 Air Force transports. The operation includes 1,500 supporting troops from five states, a 116-jet air strike group, and non stop refueling from KC135 tankers.

Mystery donor funds estranged wife in Dodgeville divorce

Mrs Frederick W. Dresser of Dodgeville Iowa County accuses her estranged husband grocer of being the mystery donor behind cash gifts sent to about 40 residents in Iowa and Richland counties. Handwriting experts confirm some envelopes were written by him. Dresser filed for divorce last May and plans a court action to stop further gifts.

Reynolds Says Tax Filing Fee To Be Repealed

Gov. John Reynolds predicted this year the state income tax filing fee of two dollars would be repealed at a Wisconsin AFL-CIO COPE meeting in Eagle River. He said there is no real pressure to repeal the state sales tax. Labor leaders planned fund raising dinners starting April, including a ten dollar plate event in Milwaukee. COPE delegates supported the AFL-CIO board’s critique of ticket pressures from candidates and parties. Haberman praised Reynolds’ work under a hostile legislature. Gapinski urged labor to address racial discrimination within its own ranks before seeking support from African Americans in Milwaukee.

Senate Post Office Committee unanimously approved President Kennedy's nomination of John A. Gronouski, 43, Wisconsin Tax Commissioner, to be Postmaster General. Search resumes for missing MATS airliner with 10 aboard

Dawn light brings renewed air and sea search for the C133 Cargo Master missing since Sunday after taking off from Dover AFB at 1 33 am CDT bound for Lajes. Coast Guard says fuel would have run out by early Sunday afternoon. Twin Girls Drown in Flood Waters From Cindy

Port Arthur Texas reports two 18 month old twins Brenda Faye and Linda Kaye Clayton drowned after wandering into three feet of muddy floodwater in Port Acres. Rev Lawrence Clayton and wife discovered them floating facedown as Cindy left remains of flooding. The storm left over ten million dollars in damage across the Texas coast.

Desegregation at Vineville Baptist Church Macon Georgia

The Vineville Baptist Church in Macon Georgia, with about 2000 members, voted unanimously to admit Sam Jerry Oni a 22 year old ministerial student from Takoradi Ghana. Oni presented himself for membership alongside white Mercer University students from the recently desegregated campus.

Wisconsin GOP urged Byrnes to run for president

Carpenters Build Climb Long Ladder To Save Boy

Augusta Montana carpenters A R Bender and Charles Welsh built a 100 foot ladder in dawn light to reach Bruce Krummel a 10 year old boy stranded on a two foot ledge about 1000 feet above Sun River.
