Arriving from early morning, organized bodies and crowds converge on Canton Ohio as President Merkinsey's funeral draws near. Deputies guard routes, while roads fill with veterans, Knights of Pythias, and citizens awaiting the procession and burial details. The day opens somberly with bells tolling and banners declaring mourning across the streets.
AP dispatch reports funeral train left Pittsburg later than scheduled by about 30 minutes, edging arrival in Canton toward 2:20. Honorary pallbearers and committees waited at the depot as black drapery went up citywide, with a solemn cortege planned to move from depot to court house through crowds.
The funeral train arrived in Canton Ohio at 11 20 after a long journey from Pillabyre. A large demonstration followed as the procession moved toward the thirteen mile route with flags bordered in black and tribute paying crowds marked the moment.
Canton, Sept 8. The second section of the funeral train bearing President McKinley’s remains arrived at noon. Mrs McKinley, in tears, was guided from the car by Dr Rixney and Abner McKinley and driven home. A long procession, with Roosevelt, cabinet, Admiral Dewey, and General Miles, accompanied the casket through arches in a somber street scene to the state wake at the courthouse.
Canton Ohio outlines a funeral program for a Major McKinsey era regiment member. The body will lie in the courthouse until 9 PM and be escorted to North Market Street by the Twenty third Ohio volunteers. A morning return to the courthouse precedes a 2 PM service at Fire Methodist church with limited forty five minute services. Blooming Prairie Minnesota September 1 A safe was blown open at J C Hartnerd and Co bank by crackmen. Between 1000 and 25000 dollars were taken with no clue to the thiefs.

The funeral train bearing the martyred president’s casket moved slowly through raw foggy dawn from Harrisburg to Altoona and Johnstown. Thousands lined depots and tracks as miners, steelworkers, and families paid homage with bowed heads, arms raised, and bells tolling, while guards stood at the car and attendants watched from the rear observation car.

They must remain in posts or resign if leaving. they express belief in his sincerity and aim to support his carryover of McKinley policies. Roosevelt also approves negotiations with England on the proposed Isthmian canal treaty.
The duke and duchess of Cornwall and York left Quebec at 4 15 pm aboard the royal yacht Ophir and arrived ashore at 9 39 pm amid cheers. A royal escort accompanied by Lord Minto and Sir Wilfrid Laurier headed toward Montreal with brief stops planned along the way.
Special to The Northwestern Washincum D C Sept 1 A special train will carry Wisconsin senators and congressmen to Canton for President McKinley's funeral. Congressmen Tabcock and Jenkins are the only Wisconsin men on the train. Sergeant-at-Arms Cusson will supervise the train.
An express train leaving Moston at 1 7 am collided with a trekch train at Avon on the New York New Haven Hartford line. Reports from Avon say several persons were killed and a number injured.
San BernardinoAug. The Santa Fe shops are in strike trouble as all men in the burner department refuse to work to press for reinstatement of two discharged by Master Mechanic Lane. Other departments may join in.
Charlen Bueckman, the first victim of the football season, died after injuries received last Sunday. Police seek the young men who played with Bueckman as inquiries continue in Chicago on September 18.
Indianapolis dispatch reports the Sovereign Grand Lodge I C C F votes to hold the next encampment in Des Moines Iowa. The decision sets the gathering to take place in Des Moines after today’s vote.
In New York on September 18 Associated Press reports citywide mourning for the late president. Half a million Greater New York schoolchildren assemble at 10 a.m. to hear hymns including Nearer My God to Thee and Lead Kindly Light. Sunrise salutes and thirty ammunition volleys mark the tribute as the National Guard and local militia mobilize for funeral duties.
Oshkosh will suspend all business as manufacturers close shops for a memorial day honoring President McKinley. Leaders including J P Gould and A C Smith endorsed resolutions praising McKinley’s industrial leadership and calling a town wide observance Thursday September 19th.
The council referred a request to widen Grand avenue from Lincoln to New York avenues and presented Vine street profile from Clendennin to Cherry avenues for grade establishment. The Board of Education sought radiation in two roots at Dale school and a fan placed on the asparagus was sent to the education committee.

At the meeting of the council Tuesday evening several contracts were let. The Commercial National Bank offered to loan city funds at 3.5 percent and the offer was accepted. J. T. Harnish won a bid to supply 1,900 bushels of oats at 36 cents per bushel. Robert Doyle was the lowest bidder for building the Waugod sewer project. A Mayer license was granted on police committee recommendation. The poor committee reported expenditures of 344.39 for August. A residents’ petition was read.
Oshkosh boxing fans anticipate a reorganized season as the Oshkosh Athletic Club plans a winter lineup and Milwaukee clubs stir activity. Governor La Follette’s clash with prize fights unsettles sport, but local organizers aim to stage scientific athletic shows and possibly bring the Duffy Stoloff bout to Oshkosh if funding and readiness align.
Frank Goodvin formerly of Omro is charged with abducting for immoral purposes a girl identified as Marie Stever in Fond du Lac. He appeared in municipal court with $1490 bail and a September 26 examination date. the case stems from allegations by the girl’s mother that she is sixteen.
The steel strike nears end in the district as most mills run near full with iron workers still dissatisfied and delaying return. Amalgamated officials seek information. headquarters are nearly deserted and President Shaffer is reported ill and resting after recent strain.
Emma Goldman the anarchist appeared cheerful in a clean shirt waist as Magistrate Prins Wise set bail at 2000 dollars. Her attorneys said they had 25000 dollars and left to raise more funds. Goldman vowed to prove she does not fear police protection and hoped to be free tonight pending hearing.
Traction Co manager Downes orders a five minute stop at 3 p.m. on all Oshkosh city and interurban lines, motormen and conductors to remove hats during the shutoff.
