Maine produced a sweeping Republican victory by about 20,000, far surpassing expectations and the 1896 high, with leaders noting planned, financed efforts and the strong party organization. Hays blamed Wilson era dissatisfaction while Democrats faced a hard defeat and uneven women’s turnout.
Mexico City reports investigations into a plot against Gen Alvaro Obregon, President elect, Gen. P Elling Calles, secretary of war, and other officials. The secretary of war announced the action after many tips were received from Mexican consuls in the United States, noting plotters were in San Antonio, Texas.
Farmers in the spring wheat area are urged to hold winter wheat until it reaches $7 a bushel at terminal markets. Representatives from Kansas Missouri Oklahoma and Nebraska met to plan national action led by wheelgrowers seeking higher prices for the crop.

Maine voters backed Frederic J. Parkhurst for governor by about 7,000 more than his Democratic opponent Bertrand G Melntyre. The statewide tally exceeded prior records, with a 55,000 margin over Hughes. Women showed strong turnout boosting Republican gains, while four Republican congressmen were elected and Democrats lost seats in the state house.

United Press reports Salton Kane Snyder a 19000 dollar elephant was buried today provoking rejoicing among monkeys and other animals. The elephant, angered by a new trainer, rampaged tossing the lion cage onto a marker wagon and caused a major disturbance in the animal tent. Trainers failed to calm the enclosure for hours after the animal was killed.
Wakioowe Ga veteran of the world war, arrested last night at Homerville in connection with the theft of liberty bonds from a southern railway trunk near Comela. From the pouches on a train several bonds and a New York exchange were found in Eight's apartment.
