The crisis after the sinking of the British tanker Hesperian dominates reports from Queenstown and Paris. Of 268 crew, 16 are unaccounted. 6 killed and 6 wounded aboard Cyrmbelime. Passengers aboard the Hesperian total 43 first class, 325 second, 165 third. 43 first class plus 250 crew accounted. Justice Willis Knowles of the Eighth Judicial District was shot and killed near his North Scituate bungalow while en route to Providence. Two laborers were detained on suspicion. one carried a revolver. Authorities suspect revenge by a litigant who had an adverse ruling. Knowles, 48, born in Ohio, served Cranston Johnston Foster and Scituate, and planned a trip to his birthplace.
