A new $650 low band walkie talkie radio unit for the sheriff’s department was approved at the April adjourned session to aid in emergencies and training. The board also authorized purchasing land from Gilbert Radke and Harold Metcalf farms for public access to federal lands on the Grand River, funding $9 from the general fund for road and land costs. Reapportionment hearing was deferred. a public hearing will be set and results reviewed in fall.

Berlin Pool Sets Summer Swim Programs and Parties
Berlin announces summer swim at Webster Street pool with six year olds and older eligible. Eight week session begins June 21 with boys and girls classes on specific days, daily open swim 115 to 9. Teen parties start June 24 on Thursdays 8 to 10. Wednesdays feature family and adult swimming, water basketball on Fridays, and senior lifeguarding if enough sign up.

Woman Drives Car Onto Post Office Steps in Waupaca
An 81-year-old woman drove her car halfway up the steps of the Waupaca Post Office at 520 p.m. injuring a passenger. Mrs Ester Anderson, 69, of Mill Street, was treated at Riverside Memorial Hospital for a possible rib cage injury after transportation by Holly Funeral Home ambulance. Driver was Mrs Margaret Campbell of Route 1, Waupaca.

Plainfield Woman's Club Dinner Closes Season
The Plainfield Woman's Club held its annual potluck dinner at Mrs. Thomas Blewett's home to close the club year. Forest ranger Ralph Plowman announces that after June 7 a burning permit is not needed in District 11 covering Portage Waushara and nearby counties due to rain and greening vegetation. Brandon- Fairwater High School teacher Donald Abbs has won a three year scholarship to study counseling and guidance at Purdue University Institute for the 1965 68 academic year. Abbs a graduate of Oshkosh Wisconsin also studied at Marian College Fond du Lac and the University of Wisconsin. He has four years teaching in Brandon and earlier taught at Sabish Junior High Fond du Lac.
