Seven people died near a Rockport public beach after a deep eight foot hole in the sand drew bathers into the surf. Janice Bailey nine and her mother Mary Bailey 26 were among the victims along with an Air Force chaplain Leonard Berry 40 from Syracuse New York and four other children. Fire Chief Dick Fox said warning signs would be posted and rescue efforts involved more than 3 000 spectators including the drowning girl’s husband Warne Bailey an airman at Foster Air Force Base.

Neenah Miss Paula Brazeau 21 died from accidental drowning at the Pr Zeta Phi sorority house in Madison, found by her mother during Parents Weekend. Born September 5, 1936, she was a Neenah High School graduate, planned to graduate from the University of Wisconsin next month. Funeral services set for Wednesday at Kessler Funeral Home and St. Margaret Mary Church with burial in St. Margaret's Cemetery.
