A federal grand jury in Nashville returns six count indictments against about eighty fertilizer manufacturers nationwide for antitrust violations. Defendants are to be bonded for October term trials in Nashville. the case outlines the formation of a trust or grasped combination seeking restraint of trade.
Wisconsin Dairy School hosts monthly butter and cheese quality contests at the university dairy school. Judges including Prof. E H Farrington and S Baer will assess submissions from dairymen, with no prizes awarded. entries prepaid and monitored to trace product sources. Some 250 entries already received for the first contest signal strong participation and expected growth across states.
Mrs A B Larrabee, 64, longtime Omro resident and widow of B Larrabee, died Thursday evening after months of illness. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne England she had lived in Omro for fifty years and is survived by sister Mrs M A Bibby of Oshkosh two sons Li and Two Li and two daughters Miss Georgie M both residents of Omro. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 PM at the Larrabee home.
In Kansas City, Judge Smith McPherson sustained the demurrer to the indictment against George H. Crosby former Burlington Line freight traffic manager finding insufficient evidence of a conspiracy and discharged him. The judge overruled the demurrer to the indictment against George J. Thomas and L. B. Tastart of New York City for conspiring to secure freight rebates. Defense offered no witnesses and arguments began immediately with trial set for later this afternoon.
The Associated Press reports continued improvement in the condition of Mrs. Jefferson Davis as of May 23 in New York City. No further details were provided on her health status or recent care.
A petition in U S district court seeks to declare South Arm Lumber Company of Milwaukee insolvent. C F Fin the Hibarnia Bank and Trust Co of New Orleans and A Hopkins of Chicago file combined claim around 900 thousand dollars. Alleged the firm owes more than it can pay and has been disposing of lands in Chippewa County. The company organized in Milwaukee twelve years ago.
Northwestern. Butte des Morts Wisconsin May 25. Le muel Pratt an old settler northeast of the village died Wednesday evening about twenty minutes of nine. His death attributed to general debility. Pratt moved from Massachusetts in the early fifties and lived here since. He is survived by a widow and five children. one, Mrs Nettie Maxwell, is married. Funeral held this afternoon with Rev Kayser of Adenville officiating. Pratt was an industrious farmer and a good neighbor, departure greatly regretted. Mrs Charles Suettel drove to Oshkosh Friday on business. Thomas Petford went to Oshkosh Tuesday. Residents amused by a Ball Prairie farmer challenging locals to a baseball game between teams from respective places. five men vs nine. The challenger claimed to play for Ball Prairie and the village deemed him intoxicated.
Washington May 25 The heated exchange between Wisconsin's Representative Cooper and Iowa's Hepburn focused on misstatements regarding the railroad rate bill. Cooper denied calling Hepburn's claims false, while Hepburn angrily defended his statements before the House as time expired, ending the exchange without further decorum.
The Associated Press reports the May 25 vote on the railroad rate bill sent to conference with 144 yeas and 105 nays. Republicans allied with Democrats against the rule. Senate unfinished business includes the Jewel Panama canal bill and the omnibus lighthouse bill as reported by Senator Frye.

Cleveland May 24 The interstate commerce commission opens a second day of inquiry into the Standard Oil Company. Frank B. Fretter of the National Refining Company testifies that rail agents allied with Waters-Pierce Oil sabotaged shipments from Memphis to Arkansas for over three years. He cites delayed orders of 30, 60, and 90 days and loss of customers to Standard Oil. He offered cut-rate oil to railroads but was rejected in favor of Standard.
An early 1900s speech discusses two pipe routes to the seaboard via Philadelphia and through West Virginia. The speaker claims the company spent 700 000 to 800 000 on pipe establishment and laments Standard Oil control. The gist is competition limits and a stock sale block requiring unanimous consent.
An anarchist gang assaulted the Industrial Savings Bank in Warsaw Poland this afternoon. The attackers, armed with revolvers, ordered customers to halt. A chief clerk drew his weapon and fired, wounding two customers and enabling the others to flee.
Oscar Haskell Morrisy, sporting editor of The Milwaukee Daily News, was elected secretary of the Fox Valley Baseball League to replace Tom Earley, who resigned. The league includes Fond du Lac Kaukauna and Rome, with three Milwaukee city clubs. Reports from Manitowoc of consolidation with the Lake Shore and Fox River leagues are denied.
A Daily News special from Chippewa Falls reports the jury in the Farr case deliberated forty three hours and answered no to the three questions. The questions asked whether the defendant was guilty of adultery at the Euclid hotel in Superior on May 11 12 and 13. Proceedings regarding the divorce are now in progress.
In Rock Island May 25 Gustave Engellin shot his wife Helaise Sroda dead after a failed reconciliation attempt at her home. His 12 year old daughter witnessed the crime before Engellin killed himself. The case is under police investigation.
Philadelphia reports President Cassatt sailed home from Cherbourg. Witnesses before the Interstate Commerce Commission discuss coal car allocations to mines served by spurs. Large testifies coal shipments caused mine operators to suffer losses and claim favoritism toward certain coal firms.
Warsaw May 25 Governor Jelineki of Kielcety is suspected of murdering a woman named Okoulina found dead in a room with him. Neighbors heard two shots but the governor says the death was the woman’s own action. Local papers have been forbidden to mention the incident.
Nearly 800 students from most eastern universities expected to compete in thirteen events at Harvard for the thirtieth annual Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America meet. Contenders include Pennsylvania Cornell Harvard and Yale with finals tomorrow. The Harvard Cornell varsity rowing crews prep on the Charles River while other races feature Cadillac school of Ithaca versus Stone School of this city and a Carroll cup single scull.
