In Long Beach California a woman, Heckaline Roseberry, 69, was pronounced dead from a heart attack at Memorial Hospital and placed in a mortuary. An embalmer, John Savino, found her alive an hour later as she began gasping for breath. She remained in critical condition but showed some improvement.

Cost of Living Up Sharply Across April Raises Pressure
Washington reports April CPI up 0.3 percent, the sharpest monthly rise this year, driven by higher food and clothing prices. Food up 0.9 percent, clothing up 0.4 percent with men’s wear surging. Overall CPI at 120.2 of 1967 base, 4.3 percent above April 1970. earnings up 3 percent.
