Peshtigo Bank Bandits Captured After Holdup

Two armed bandits robbed the Peshtigo National Bank at 10 a.m. wounding cashier Mrs. Yvonne Sieloff in the jaw. They fled in a car, hid in a barn, and were later captured on an island in the Peshtigo River near the town. FBI agents awaited details as deputies reported a shootout.

Woman Dies as Tanker Collides With Cabin Cruiser in East River

The Coast Guard opened an inquiry into the collision of the 180 foot M J Derby and a 33 foot Escape I off Swist Street. One woman, Ruth Nettles 27, died. five others, Alfred Lands 39 Ruth ergrau 42 Ruth Johnson 35 Milton Peshkin 51 and his wife 29, were rescued. Landi the skipper was hospitalized with back injuries.

Burglars Fail On 2000-Pound Safe After Weekend Break-In

Police said burglars pried open a store door and cut through two brick walls and two layers of steel but could not move a 2000 pound safe. They abandoned the break-in and left the scene.

Missing Inmates Found Hiding in Haystack

Two New Englanders Held on Windmill Kidnapping

In Lemmon South Dakota two wanderers from New England, Wayne Morgan and David Landry, were captured after abducting 56 year old Mrs. Hugh Galland and tying her to a windmill for about 10 hours. They confessed to abducting her at gunpoint to demand ransom for a tank of gas but then fled the area.

Soldiers Man Dikes To Save Town In Idaho Flood

Four hundred infantrymen from Fort Lewis manned dikes at Bonners Ferry Idaho as Kootenai River floodwaters rose two feet above flood stage. Governor Smythe declared a state of emergency and 50 families prepared to evacuate if needed while the river neared 37 feet.
