Ripon College Theater Leveled by Devastating Fire
A $153,000 blaze destroyed Ripon College’s Red Barn Theater on a Saturday evening. The fire, whose origin is undetermined, occurred while the theater was unused and close to preparations for a Sunday chamber music concert. Two Steinway pianos valued at $20,000 were also destroyed, one owned by the college and the other by Heid Music Co. of Oshkosh. Firefighters contained the flames after two hours as crews guarded against collapse. Johnson Hall windows cracked and ashes reached nearby dorms. Antigone, staged last week on Parent’s Day, marked the last production.

Bodies found in Jefferson farm murder mystery
Jefferson County farmer Roland Krueger 45 and his wife were found shot to death on their Waterloo area farm five miles south. Krueger lay in a shallow grave near a barn while his wife was inside the barn beneath straw bales. Their son Jerry reported they left Saturday with another couple in a late model car and returned with no answers.

Dominick Tucci, a 12 year old from Port Washington Long Island, spent 11 days and nights on the World’s Fair grounds living off coins from fountains and eating hamburgers before a concessionaire spotted him and alerted police.
