President Johnson Reconvenes Key Vietnam Crisis Talks

President Johnson called top military and diplomatic advisers to an afternoon session in Washington to discuss the Vietnamese crisis sparked by Premier Ky’s crackdown on Buddhist dissidents. Vessel With 155 Aboard May Capsize

Manila AP report says Typhoon Irma drove the 740 ton interisland steamer Pioneer Ce bu aground off Cebu Island. About 100 passengers and 20 crew were aboard with the vessel described as in critical condition as 80 mph winds lashed the ship and giant seas prevented rescue boats from reaching it. A Philippine President Lines radio operator confirmed the vessel was aground on a reef near the northern Cebu tip with SOS received but no abandonment mentioned.

Strike Idles British Ships

British merchant crews including tramp steamers and liners walked off the job in a wage strike.
