Reports from San Francisco detail Mrs. McKinley’s critical, unstable condition with doctors noting a sinking spell and the president cancelling plans. Relatives have been notified as Mrs. McKinley remains unconscious and near death.
Reports from San Francisco on May 16 describe Mrs McKinley gravely ill at the Scott residence. Physicians attend closely as officials monitor her status and consider postponing Ohio's launching. News spreads quickly, with crowds and telegraphic inquiries throughout the nation.
Wisconsin governor instructs Carl D. Jackson and Eugene Potter to prevent any prize fight within Winnebago county. An Evening Wisconsin dispatch from Tron Dilt reports a late night fire in shaft No 2 at the Atlantic mine in Wisconsin. About 150 miners were inside and escaped death by a narrow margin as the mine sustained significant losses.

Mrs. Justin N Boyington of Marshfield died at eleven o clock Wednesday night while visiting La Crosse. She was 36, survived by husband two daughters Martha and Celia, parents Mr and Mrs E T Ellsworth Marshfield, two sisters Edith Wing La Crosse and Lois Ellsworth Marshfield, and Gleason Ellsworth Chicago. Funeral in La Crosse then burial at Stevens Point after 10 20 Saturday.

Madlaen Wis May 16 Governor La Follette signed the bill dividing Chippewa county and organizing Gates County. He approves the ice tax bill as a license fee on ship ments from inland lakes, calling it a sale of the fee rather than a tax. He vetoes two bills, one fixing the municipal court clerk's salary at West Superior and another authorizing H J Frick to build a dam in Langlade county.
The Ladies' Benevolent Society plans a two story brick Home for the Friendless on Main Street near New York avenue. They purchased a property from Gruenewad and Hilton for 410,000 and seek local architects to submit plans for a 20 resident facility. Moses Hooper chairs the building committee and will meet soon to advance the project toward occupancy by fall.
In police action on Wednesday night a drunken woman Theresa Cummings known as Silver Top disturbed a resident’s home at Evans and Merritt. She pleaded guilty to drunk and disorderly conduct and was jailed ten days for nonpayment of a $5 fine plus costs. Nearby, Owen Morris, a one legged man, was picked up on South Main in a drunken state and sent to Waupaca with $3.25 in his possession after being detained at the Wisconsin Central depot.
On May 16 a washed out bridge three miles east of Sharon Spyings caused Union Pacino freight train No 1 to derail. Engineer Herriman and brakeman Osborn were killed instantly.
