A deadly explosion and fire at the Cleveland Clinic hospital leaves at least eighty eight dead and many injured. Victims include patients nurses and doctors trapped by flames and toxic fumes as firefighters extinguish the blaze two hours after ignition.
Mrs Irene Lentz of Parsons West Virginia recalls a gas leak at a hospital as a brown toxic wall trapped and suffocated victims. She watched smoke emerge from a nearby room, then red lights and frantic evacuation followed. A wall of gas blocked exits and many people collapsed with a mother's anguished cry.
Horrific scenes filled a city building blaze as gas leaked during a botany lab fire. Firefighters and nurses battled flames and poison gas, lifting victims through windows and onto roofs. Dozens died. many more were hospitalized, with the dead count rising at Mount Sinai within minutes.
In Fond du Lac Wisconsin a powerfully built municipal judge, H M Fellenz, acted as his own bailiff when a youth argued and threatened him. The judge stepped down, grabbed the youth by the pants seat and coat collar, and tossed him into the corridor before calling the next case.
Beaver Dam Wisconsin report says Stanley Miles 28 shot and killed his estranged wife Dorothy then killed himself after entering a summer shed where she was washing clothes. Police found Dorothy dying with two gunshot wounds and Miles in the shed as they arrived. He later died at hospital. Miles had traveled from La Crosse to see his wife who had sought police protection. A letter outlining a plan to kill his wife was found in Miles pocket.
James N Tittemore of Omio was nominated as United States marshal for eastern Wisconsin and Charles N Rawlinson of La Crosse was nominated as marshal for the western district Stephen J McMahon of Wisconsin was nominated a member of the board of tax appeals for the unexpired term of twelve years from June 2 1926 Mr McMahon is 48 a Wisconsin native and former Antigo city attorney and U S attorney helper He also taught at Marquette and held trustee roles Garberg about 40 served as assistant U S district attorney in North Dakota Tittemore about 60 a farmer and past political candidate Rawlinson about 52 a Spanish American war veteran

He says The Chicago Journal is controlled by Bryan and himself with no International control over the paper.
The Interstate Commerce Commission orders the Pennsylvania rail road and its investment subsidiary to show cause on June 24 why they should not divest all direct and indirect holdings in Wabash and Lehigh Valley systems. The commission alleges large stock acquisitions without approval violating the Clayton Act, warning of possible reduced competition with Wabash and Lehigh Valley. It notes 312,900 shares of Wabash preferred and 362,900 shares of Wabash common bought between Feb 15 1927 and Jun 26 1928, plus indirect Lehigh Valley holdings of 365,000 shares while Wabash owned 231,329 Lehigh Valley shares.
