Tragic Waukesha Fire Kills Three Family Members
A one story frame cottage on the western edge of Waukesha Wisconsin burned after a kerosene lantern exploded as a strong gust fanned the flames. A young mother Henrietta Luchman 21 and her one and a half year old daughter Geraldine Ann perished in the blaze. Fern Schultz 16 sister of the mother survived but was badly burned. Leonard Schulz the father died after leaping through a window as his clothing caught fire. Otto Lachman husband of the deceased was at work when the explosion occurred and was not home. Firefighters recovered the bodies and treated survivors at area hospitals.
