From the Great Northern and Majestic hotels crowds chased coal wagons leaving under heavy guard. Thousands pursued amid hooting and missiles as wagons moved toward Madison Street. Police escort sentries failed to curb the disorder, with shops providing shelter.
A. B. Spear, cashier of the closed Citizens Bank of Oberlin, pleads guilty in federal court to one count of making false bank entries. District Attorney Sullivan urges that the remaining fifteen indictments be pursued. Judge Taylor sentences Spear to seven years in the Ohio penitentiary.
The Dominion Council of Menasha Wisconsin rejected tax rebates for knitting factories citing lack of local hiring and limited benefit to business interests. Milwaukee May 3 A Journal special from Appleton says the Colbert arson case will be before the supreme court Friday morning May 5. Mrs Colbert aged seventy was charged with firing the Welcome millinery store fire that nearly destroyed the town. She was found guilty November 28 1903 and sentenced to two years at Waupun. A writ of error granted a stay of execution. Since then she has lived with her daughters at Fond du Lac and Milwaukee.
Representative Davidson arrived in Washington to attend the international railway congress and will stay until May 10 before joining the rivers and harbors committee in Pittsburgh for an inspection up the Ohio River. He is a member of the American commission led by President Roosevelt.
Madison May 3 Two rate bill reports loom as Assembly debates tempo and committee votes. La Follette faction predicts Senate approval and possible return of an elective commission to the Assembly. Measures include highway and public safety tweaks, medical license hearings, and a bridge project over the Wisconsin River at Spring Green.

Milwaukee dispatch reports Dietz alive and denies claims he was shot dead by a U S marshal at Cameron Dam. Attorney J. Conner said news was awaited from Madison as marshals reached Cameron camp Sunday night and delays were anticipated through midweek.
Special Police Officer Rafferty was fatally shot by three burglars at the Brennan lumber yard office in St Paul Minnesota as he and Patrolman Puglesea attempted to use the telephone. Rafferty was wounded in the stomach and not expected to survive at St Joseph's hospital. The officers exchanged fire. the robbers escaped into darkness.
