Mayor plans to name candidates for two city jobs tonight

Efaser Ernest R. Siewert is expected to name his candidates for city attorney and street superintendent at the council session. He may also appoint a third candidate for city attorney to win council approval. The first street superintendent candidate will be announced. A proposed charter amendment would shift appointment power to the council, a change aldermen say would depoliticize the posts. The meeting will also consider a $15,500 purchase option for an off street parking site at High and Light Streets to be funded by meter revenues from Wisconsin Telephone. A public hearing on vacating Harcock Street is planned, along with annexation proposals east of Riverside Cemetery and along Hamilton Avenue from Algoma Boulevard. Other items include compensation for the city engineer, a salary adjustment, reducing the annexation committee size, establishing a city truck route, extending one hour parking on Pezzi Street, and improving access near the Soo Lines tracks and arterial stops. Tonight's session adjoins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to award a $500,000 bond sale proceeds for North Main Street and Oregon Street bridge work with remaining funds for High Street repairs.
